Woods & Co are excited to be recruiting for an experienced Sous Chef to join one of Melbourne's most respected and dynamic hospitality groups.

What do you do?

  • Act as second-in-command to the Head Chef, leading daily kitchen operations and service execution
  • Run the pass during service, ensuring timing, consistency and plating standards are flawless
  • Oversee all sections, ensuring dishes are delivered to recipe, portion and presentation standards
  • Support menu development and contribute ideas for specials, refinement and innovation
  • Own recipe documentation, costing and standardisation to ensure consistency across the kitchen
  • Lead stock control, ordering, waste reduction and supplier communication
  • Train, mentor and develop Senior CDPs and Junior Sous Chefs to build a strong brigade
  • Conduct tastings, checks and real-time corrections during prep and service
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and performance management across the BOH team
  • Step in for the Head Chef when required, maintaining structure, discipline and service standards

What do you need?

  • 4-5+ years’ experience in professional kitchens, including at least 1–2 years as a Sous Chef
  • Strong experience working in high-volume, fast-paced, premium dining environments
  • Proven ability to run sections and lead service under pressure
  • Strong understanding of costing, stock control, ordering and waste management
  • Confident leadership style with the ability to coach, correct and motivate teams in real time
  • Solid knowledge of food safety, OHS and kitchen compliance standards
  • Experience mentoring junior chefs and supporting structured team development
  • Passion for fire cooking, bold flavours and high-energy kitchen environments
